Rangers make Condors pay

ERRORS from Lismore Workers Condors has given Rous Hotel Rangers an 11-5 victory in their Far North Coast open women’s softball match at the weekend.

In extreme heat both sides struggled to field teams with the switch to the earlier timeslot; Workers started the game with only eight players, while Rous pulling up numbers from lower grade.

Workers started the batting attack with Carlie Walker scoring in the first innings.

Rous came out with their bats blazing in the second innings with lead-off batter making first on an error followed by a huge home run from Val Dowse unsettling Workers’ defensive play.

An error at rightfield followed by hits saw Rangers cross the plate seven times.

Condors’ confidence grew when they reached first safely followed by a three-base hit from Walker and a homerun saw them cross for four runs, before Alison Hunter caught an opponent for the third out, which had Rous up 7-5.

A comedy of errors by Workers in the bottom of the third sealed the result after Rous scored a further four runs.

The fourth innings saw both side retired without scoring.

The fifth saw Workers shut out again with Sam Dowse doing the damage from third base to give Rous a comfortable victory.
