Rally for sick kids

A LOCAL driver has taken the chequered flag in a four-day cross-country rally in the State's south-west.

David Jones is a strong supporter of The Day of Difference Derby which covers hundreds of kilometres of the Australian outback to raise money and awareness for critically injured children and their families.

A convoy of 22 cars took part, starting at Marulan near Goulburn and ending in Dunedoo.

"The event was challenging but rewarding," Mr Jones said.

"It's great knowing you're helping out sick kids."

More than $11,500 was raised, with each participant fundraising individually.

Mr Jones and his team raised $3156.

The work of the organisation is invaluable, said Mr Jones, whose young son suffers from severe cerebral palsy.

"From my own personal experience I know how important their work is and how much the money is needed."

The money raised goes to the various children's hospitals around the country which help treat sick kids.

The rally is run annually.
