Allen Stone brings Radius to Bluesfest
RADIUS is Allen Stone's latest album, and most of his Bluesfest gig will be based on the music from this release.
"We will be playing a lot of material off that record and a lot of old stuff as well," he said.
"The idea is to entertain folks, whatever it takes."
Made in collaboration with Swedish soul singer/songwriter Magnus Tingsek, and producer Benny Cassette (Kanye West, Frank Ocean), Radius captures the warm energy of that creative connection and transports the listener to a higher and more exalted plane.
Allen Stone said he named the album Radius while flying back to the US from his latest 2014 Bluesfest visit.
"There wasn't an overwhelming theme across this album. It wasn't a concept record," he added.
"There were really a lot of songs that were intro prospective, and kind of speaking of the moment and the emotion that I was in when I wrote them.
"I toiled with a number of names, one of the was The Circumference of Serenity, but that sounded a little bit self-righteous, and then I thought it could be The Radius Of Righteousness, and that was just super self-righteous, so I ended on Radius.
"This album is about my Radius, who I have become at the age of 28 from the core to my exterior."
Stone was born on March 13, 1987, in Chewelah, Washington, a small town with a population of about 2600 people.
Stone began his career singing at his father's church.
His father was a preacher and his mother was an nurse.
He sang in the church from the age of three.
By 14, Stone was leading worship at his church and playing the guitar.
Once he discovered soul music, he started collecting classic albums from the 1960s and 1970s.
