Race in for Lismore Cup fun
WITH $45,000 in prize money on offer you could be tempted to knit a horse costume for your motorbike and "canter" down to the Lismore Cup this Thursday.
Alternatively a free shuttle bus service will be available from the CBD running every 10 minutes from noon and after the races from 4.30pm.
Taken out by Castlemagne King in 2013 the Lismore Cup is a premier event in the New South Wales country racing calendar.
Run over 2100 metres, the race tests several excellent country horses as well as some metropolitan runners who come from Brisbane or Sydney to chase cup glory.
Scott Jones from the Lismore Turf Club said: "It's the last of the long distance races as far as local cups go."
A day of action is guaranteed with great hospitality, entertainment, fashion and, of course, the chance to back a winner.
It is not unusual for Lismore Cup success to act as a spring board to higher level racing and some trainers may use the Lismore Cup to gauge where their horse's spring campaign should head and whether they are good enough to tackle races at metropolitan meetings.
Guaranteed to be a fun-filled day, gates open at 11am and entry is $20.
Try backing a winner, entering the fashions on the field event or dance the afternoon away to the Cath Simes Band.
The XXXX Beer Garden is a new inclusion to the entertainment options and the Lismore Late Nighter Bus will continue into the night with services departing Keen St from 8pm half hourly until 1am.
