Qld stealing NSW $35.3m lotto luck

A RECORD jackpot in the $5 Jackpot Lottery has seen a flurry of people hoping to get rich head to newsagents on the Tweed side of the border.

The prize is currently sitting at $35.3 million.

Newton's Newsagency owner Robert Newton said the big prize was having a notable effect on the numbers coming through his doors.

"We've had people coming in from Queensland," Mr Newton said.

"It's the highest it's ever been."

A NSW Lotteries spokeswoman said the record prize had slowly built up.

"We are expecting it to go off at any time," she said.

The lottery is drawn when all 180,000 tickets are sold.

The spokeswoman said the lottery was currently being drawn about once a day.
