Q&A with Bart B More
DUTCH DJ Bart B More, Bart van der Meer, is a producer from Holland who makes techno and electro-influenced dance music and travels the world playing it.
He has his own label, Secure Recordings with some big-name acts Diplo, Riva Starr, Harvard Bass and Drop The Lime.
He got up early to talk to CASSANDRA TOBIN recently.
You're in the studio with TAI at the moment, how's that going?
Well I'm not right now ... it's still early here. But it's going really well.
Yesterday we recorded a track, I'm not sure how it will sound today but I'm hopeful that it will come out well.
What are you working on?
I'm working on my debut album. I've always released singles, but now I think it's time for me to release something bigger than that.
Do you have any idea of what it's going to sound like at this stage?
I'm about halfway through it at the moment so I'd say it's going to have a lot of the Bart signature sound. It has a bit of techno influence, a bit of electro, so far I'm really happy with where it's going.
You work with DJs from all over the world including Australia's Destroy Disco - there seems to be a family vibe between DJs all over the world...
Because things are so easy with swapping files you can do collaborations with people from all over the world.
To me it's really interesting to see how people are thinking about music for example in Australia.
It's so far away from where I live so it's fun to hear different interpretations of music.
To find out what the big sound is over there.
What do you think the main difference is between Holland and Australia?
I think Australia has always been into big-room stuff but also Dutch house was also big when I played Stereosonic there.
I'm not sure what it's like there now but there are definitely similarities between the Dutch and Australian sounds.
What can we expect from your show in Byron Bay?
I'm really excited to play all of my new stuff. If people haven't heard it yet they should head to my Soundcloud.
Bart B More hits the decks at LaLa Land, Byron Bay on Friday, January 27.
