Put a saucer under that coffee cup

JOHNO'S SAY: I am sorry but I don't like people walking around carrying cups of coffee.

Well I do like people, it's just that I don't like the look of them wandering around the streets carrying cardboard cups of coffee. Sorry.

It looks cheap, lazy and uninviting.

Now I understand the coffee craze and I don't mind a cup or two myself. But I do object to mobile consumption.

Far better to consume in a more refined setting, like in a restaurant, at your dining table or office desk.

Cardboard coffee cups have become the new pet dogs. Instead of taking your dog for a walk on a leash you simply stroll around the streets and laneways with a cardboard cup in hand, like it's on a leash. It looks silly.

The revolution from tea to coffee in my lifetime was simply amazing. When I was a youngster tea was not the beverage of choice, it was the only choice, and if you didn't like it too bad.

What do you think about walking around with cardboard cups of coffee?

No matter how good John Wayne looked taking his morning coffee from a black jug on a western desert fire, tea was still the beverage for all.

Auntie Grace's galvanised, gallon tea pot produced a multi-propose tea brew. If you didn't drink it you could bitumen the driveway afterwards. Black as………

Then, maybe in the 60s, unremarkable instant coffee brews appeared including Pablo (ohhh that was forgettable), Maxwell House and Nescafe with its 43 beans in every cup (prove it). These were tasteless drops, but we drank them nonetheless.

And on beverages, how did the pronunciation of Nestle become "NesLay?" If it's NesLay why then does the logo depict a bird sitting on a nest?

Tea had set itself up for an invasion and oh what an invasion it was.

Long Black, Short Black, Flat White, Café Vienna, Espresso, Cappucino, Latte, Latte Macchiato, Café Americano, Café Cubano, Espresso Romano - stop, the world's gone mad, I want to get off!

And it gets worse, they added flavours like vanilla and caramel. More madness.

So now we've got Australians demanding all these silly combos so they can wander around the Nation's streets with their right arm extended, holding on defiantly to a cardboard cup.

Let's return to those gentler days when coffee, or tea, was consumed in suitable surroundings, not in public places, by consumers in the horizontal, and not the vertical, position.

What do you think?

Is it acceptable to walk around carrying cups of coffee, or carrying cups of coffee around should be discouraged.
