Purple patch for Pottsville bat

POTTSVILLE top order batsman Jayden Hoare continued to pile on the runs in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League at the weekend.

Hoare scored 67 not out in a two-game competition against Ballina Bears after an unbeaten 210 against Murwillumbah the previous week.

Pottsville have plenty of depth in the top order with the addition of Tait Burns and are currently 2-72 after bowling Bears out for 170.

Meanwhile, Marist Brothers opening batsman Lachlan Barnsley scored 108 for North Coast in a 50-over game at the NSW Country Championships in Inverell on Sunday.

It was a big innings for the teenager who was called into the North Coast side as its Under-23 representative.

He spent plenty of time at the crease hitting eight fours on his way to bringing up a century against Central North.

Lennox Head all-rounder Andrew Lindsay was 20 not out when North Coast chased down 215 with one over to spare.

Cudgen fast bowler James Julius also performed well in the game, taking 5-36 from his 10 overs to help restrict Central North to 8-214.

It was a tough couple of days for North Coast coming against strong Newcastle and Western Zone teams.

Julius took four wickets against Newcastle (8-264) on Saturday before they were hammered by 146 runs when they were bowled out for just 118.

Earlier, Cudgen left-arm spinner Anthony Kershler took three wickets when Western Zone finished 9-243 in their first game.

Cudgen teammate Pat Rosser scored 40 runs before North Coast were dismissed for 134 after 38 overs.
