Purple patch for Dami after pouring out winning hit

THERE'S no raining on Dami Im's parade.

The X Factor winner's single Alive has rocketed to the top of the iTunes charts and she is now signed with Sony Music, with her self-titled debut album to be released next month.

While Alive sits at the top of the charts, it was Im's stunning performance of Purple Rain which stunned the judges and millions of viewers last night.

Redfoo called the performance, in which Im wore large butterfly wings and stepped into a stream of water falling down behind her, as "too good".

But Im revealed to APN today that Redfoo's worries of electrocution were not an issue and that she planned to get wet during the performance.

"They had to waterproof everything," she said.

"They wrapped my mic pack in plastic and foam stuff, and also a sound man was standing in the audience with a spare mic just in case."

She said she "nearly drowned" during rehearsals yesterday.

"It was pouring on my head like a waterfall and I couldn't breathe," she said.

"I nearly drowned in the rehearsals. We decided to move it back a little bit and make the rain a little bit lighter."

Im described herself as a "dag" on the show last night, and explained that she hopes her music inspires those who don't feel like the "cool kids".

"I'm not the usual cool kid who sits at the back of the school bus," she said.

"I've never been the most popular girl or the prettiest girl at school or anything, but people still loved me for who I am," she said.

"People voted for me and I feel like I have a responsibility to be an inspiration for people who feel the same way and feel like losers or whatever; the uncool kids."

While she's open to releasing her music in Asia, particularly her native South Korea, Im said she wants to be based in Australia. She currently lives in Daisy Hill in Brisbane's southern suburbs with her husband Noah.

"My biggest dream is to just make my music in Australia," she said.

"This is my home and it's where I grew up. I want to stay in Australia but I'm also open to being able to travel overseas. If I could have a career in Asia or internationally, but be based in Australia, then that would be awesome."

Im's self-titled debut album will be released on November 22.

Fans can also see her and the X Factor Top 5 contestants in concert on the X Factor Live Tour, which plays the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on November 29 and the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre on November 30.
