Punter who won $262,000 with $100, yet to bet on Origin
A NEW South Wales punter who skinned bookmakers Sportsbet for $262,000 for a $100 investment last weekend has not yet placed a bet on tonight's State of Origin game in Sydney.
The client landed an amazing $100 multi-bet wager on the Cowboys to win by eight points (they won 8-0) into the Bulldogs getting up by seven points (they won 41-34).
He also had another $50 multi bet going for a massive $1 million collect after combining the Cowboys and Bulldogs into Newcastle to beat Brisbane by 10 points on Monday.
The bet did not come off after Brisbane hit back strongly in the second half.
Sportsbet however offered the client $105,000 to cash out option on the $1 million bet but the fearless punter decided to let it ride.
The punter though would have thought his bet was on the Bulldogs-Raiders game was history with the scores locked up at 34-all until an amazing sequence of events in the final 60 seconds.
With 34 second remaining Bulldogs five-eighth Josh Reynolds wobbled over a field goal which just cleared the cross bar to make it 35-34 - still not enough the punter to collect.
Newcastle then tried a short kick off which Bulldogs forward Frank Pritchard grabbed and tossed to the flying Moses Mbye who sprinted 50 metres to score out wide to make it 39-34.
One can only imagine how the punter was feeling when Mbye line up the difficult $262,000 conversion kick and steered it straight between the posts.
A sportsbet spokesmen said to his knowledge the punter, who enjoyed dabbling in margin multi bets, had not placed a wager on tonight's State of Origin game.
However he said punters were more into trying to pick the first try scorer tonight than betting head to head although one punter had weighed in with a $40,000 bet on NSW at $2.20.
