Protests allowed in the Philippines

PHILIPPINES president-elect Rodrigo Duterte says he will allow public protests against his decrees on two highly controversial former presidents.

Mr Duterte said he would allow the body of dictator Ferdinand Marcos - who fled to US exile in 1986 in the face of the "People Power" revolution and accusations of corruption - to be buried in a heroes' cemetery.

Mr Duterte also intends to pardon ex-president Gloria Arroyo, who has been detained since 2011 while awaiting trial on charges of electoral fraud and misusing state funds.
