Protesters Falls a ‘secret gem
A SCENIC waterfall in the Nightcap National Park has been shortlisted in a nationwide search for Australia's best-hidden secret destinations or experiences.
Protesters Falls (this is the official spelling although many signs spell it Protestors) has made it into the top 40 off-the-beaten track spots list compiled by travel website Hooroo from 450 nominations.
A Hooroo representative said Protesters Falls was nominated for both its breathtaking natural beauty and historical significance.
Saved from deforestation by protesters in 1979, Protesters Falls boasts decked walkways snaking throughout the rainforest.
An expert judging panel of travel and lifestyle influencers selected the top 40 to be put to public vote. They included Bondi Vet and The Living Room presenter Chris Brown, who said: "I congratulate Protesters Falls on being a well-deserving finalist. It's exactly the kind of 'in-the-know' destination I love to discover when I travel."
Hooroo Head of Marketing Lija Wilson said: "We launched the Hooroo Secret Spots search to find out from the community what the country's best off-the-beaten track destinations and experiences were.
"We have uncovered so many hidden gems across the nation that all travellers can now enjoy. But it is now up to the public to vote on what they believe is the best secret spot.
Australia's top five secret spots will be announced in January, with more than $14,500 in prizes.
They will be given the title of an official Hooroo secret spot.
