Man found masturbating in park to spend time in jail

A HOMELESS man who was masturbating in a Rockhampton park will spend time behind bars after he pleaded guilty to four charges, including drug offences, in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday.

Michael John Baird pleaded guilty to one count each of public nuisance, obstructing police, possessing a dangerous drug and possessing utensils used in connection with smoking a dangerous drug after a witness reported him to police on December 8.

Police prosecutor Danita Clarke told the court witnesses reported seeing a male person masturbating with his hand down his pants in full view of the public at 4.55pm.

The court heard Baird was lying beside a footpath. Ms Clarke said the 35-year-old became verbally aggressive to police when he was being arrested.

"He threatened to kill police several times and said he would send his partner to kill police," she said.

Witnesses reported Baird again at 10.30pm on December 13 when police found him asking members of the public for money on East St.

Police found a small clip seal bag containing cannabis and a pipe in Baird's shirt pocket.

Magistrate Cameron Press sentenced Baird to three months in prison with parole release after one month.

Baird was fined $650.
