Prawn fest’s trawling for floats

IT'S time to get the thinking caps on - and think prawns.

A street parade will open Ballina Prawn Festival on November 15 and organisers are encouraging locals, school groups and other organisations to decorate a float and take part in the parade.

"There are so many ways you can join in," said Nadia Eliott-Burgess from Ballina Chamber of Commerce.

"You could create a float on a vehicle, spruce up your wheelbarrow in a prawn-related theme, decorate your golf buggy, make a design to fit over your pushbike or mobility scooter or just decorate yourself and walk in the parade.

"Whatever floats your boat," she said.

Ms Eliott-Burgess said the parade aimed to "celebrate our shared and unique identity, a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition".
