HOPEFUL students preparing for tertiary education took to the Fraser Coast's University of Southern Queensland on Saturday to find out about new courses, how to get in and what to study.

The information day attracted about 185 people, compared to 85 last year.

Damien Christian took time out find out about an associate degree in engineering, which will be offered at the university for the first time this year.

Lecturer Glenn Harris has relocated to the Fraser Coast from Toowoomba to run USQ's engineering programs and was there to meet with interested students.

The Fraser Coast's younger students have also begun preparing for the 2014 school year, with only one more week of holidays.

Term 1 for both primary and secondary students will begin on January 28.
