Pot luck on phone theft arrest

A GIRRARDS Hill man has found himself facing theft and drugs charges after allegedly taking someone's mobile phone after its owner left it behind at a Lismore pub.

The 27-year-old man is alleged by police to have found the phone unattended at the pub after its owner, who had been having lunch at the pub, forgot it when leaving.

After returning to the pub and finding the phone gone, the owner viewed CCTV footage and then went to the Girrard Hill man's home and phoned police.

Officers found the missing mobile and a small amount of cannabis at the house.

They charged the man with larceny and possessing a prohibited drug. He was released on bail to appear at Lismore Local court on the 2nd April 2012.
