Bangalow Pool plan has been approved

AFTER more than 10 years of campaigning and fund-raising the Bangalow Pool Trust has received DA approval to build the town's long-awaited pool.

President of the Trust, award-winning architect Dominic Finlay-Jones, said the Trust can now step up its fundraising campaign.

"We already have over $250,000 raised by the community but we need over $1m to finish the project," he said.

"This is a very important milestone for us as it allows us to apply for Regional Development Grants and grants from Sport and Recreation."

The grassroots campaign to raise money is prominent among community members with a fundraising thermometer tracking donations on display at the Bangalow Post Office.

Ruth Ryan from Barebones Art Space has been involved in the campaign right from its genesis 20 years ago.

"We are all absolutely over the moon to get it through," she said.

The 25m, eight-lane pool, designed by Dominic Finlay-Jones Architects and Lucid Metals, will include a shaded toddler pool, community facilities and a multi-purpose recreation room.
