Pony club’s 50th birthday bash

THE Channon-Dunoon Pony Club will celebrate 50 years since forming in 1964, based at Coronation Park.

One event on the calendar is a celebratory morning tea and president Fiona Wilders said that "past and current members should come along and catch up".

"Ours is traditionally one of the smaller clubs in our zone but we're still going after all of this time," Mrs Wilders said.

"The morning tea will be held on Sunday, December 7, from 10.30am at Coronation Park at The Channon.

"The club has been around all of this time and I know there are people out there who were members or know members of the club and would like to catch up.

"Vicki Barter from Horseland, a former president is coming, as is a former member, now a Canberra lawyer.

"Maybe people remember visiting John Brooker for trail rides on his property at Piora or going there for the New Zealand Exchange Program.

"The program has our club members and Whakatane Pony Club travel for competitions.

"The NZ 2014 team has just gone home and our riders will visit in January.

"Pony club is a great way for young people to learn sportsmanship, horsemanship and responsibility, and meet new friends."
