Byron council commits funds to floating pontoon at Bruns

BRUNSWICK Heads is a step closer to having a new floating pontoon with Byron Shire Council committing an additional $19,000 to a $63,000 NSW Government Better Boating Program grant.

An application was made in 2013 to secure the $63,000 grant and the balance of funds to build the pontoon will come from the council's Sportsfield Upgrade.

The 10m floating pontoon would sit next to the concrete fixed boat ramp and would replace the current ramp, Marine Rescue Brunswick unit commander Rex Fisher said.

"If we have to bring back a disabled vessel, we could just line it up alongside the pontoon and when we had to transport injured people the new ramp would be much quicker and safer to get them into an ambulance.

"Boaties could also have three vessels at a time using the new pontoon."
