Pollies and ACA at Lismore Court today
GREENS MLC David Shoebridge and A Current Affair journos will attend the Lismore Local Court today, to witness the 46 drug driving listings today.
Mr Shoebridge said he was concerned regarding, "Police not presenting evidence of impairment in any case but people still losing their licenses and livelihoods."
Tonight Mr Shoebridge will host a Roadside Drug Testing Forum at the Tatts Hotel in Keen Street Lismore, which begins at 6.30pm.
Mr Shoebridge said, "Roadside drug testing needs to be drastically changed to test for all the drugs that are commonly found to impair driving, legal and illegal, and to test at levels that are known to impair driving," he said.
More than 100 people said they would be attending the forum via Facebook.
The political and media attention follows the recent decision by Lismore Magistrate David Heilpern which found Lismore Man Joseph Carrall not guilt of drug driving. Mr Heilpern found the defendant had 'honest and reasonable belief' he did not have a detectable level of cannabis in his system. Police prosecutors fear this case could open the 'floodgate' for similar lines of defence and the are reviewing the decision.
