POLICE have cordoned off a house in Coffs Harbour where an alleged drug laboratory was uncovered in a raid this morning.

Police said officers executed a search warrant on a James Ide Pl home around 8am.

Officers found an 'active' methamphetamine lab in the garage of the home and established a crime scene.

Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Acting Detective Inspector Kingsley Chapman said a woman, 48, and a man, 39 were taken into custody and are expected to be charged with manufacture a prohibited drug

"Upon arrival there was a particularly strong chemical smell, police took precautions and evacuated the premises and secured the home accordingly," Inspt. Chapman said.

"These matters are concerning the chemicals used to manufacture these drugs are highly volatile and are made in backyards, garages and in sheds and that's of great concern as they are of great danger to the public."

Hazmat crews inspected the property this morning and specialist police from Sydney will dismantle the drug making equipment this afternoon.
