Police shoot truck driver dead after women struck, injured

A MAN driving a suspected stolen truck was shot and killed by police in the Sydney suburb of Redfern on Friday.

Two women were struck by the truck and were treated at the scene for minor injuries. No police officers were injured.

Attempts by officers and paramedics to save the man's life proved unsuccessful.

The incident happened about 11.40am in Regent St, Redfern.

A critical incident investigation team comprising officers from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be overseen by officers from the Professional Standards Command.
