Answers sought for Ryan murder
DEVASTATED Casino mother Marie Ryan cannot fathom why anyone would want to hurt her son who was murdered in Tamworth eight days ago.
Jeffrey Ryan, 48, was found dead from a single gunshot wound to the back at his Duri property near Tamworth shortly after midday last Saturday when neighbours raised the alarm.
Police and family members are pleading with the public for information about the murder.
Tamworth detectives have established Strike Force Chandler with assistance from the State Crime Command to investigate the case.
Members of the strike force will travel to Casino next Tuesday to do further interviews and have asked anyone with any information or insight into Mr Ryan’s affairs to contact them immediately.
Mr Ryan’s mother, his sister, Wendy Edwards, and son from his first marriage, Ben Ryan, all from the Northern Rivers, travelled to Tamworth yesterday to join police at a press conference appealing for information.
In a brave and dignified appeal, Mrs Ryan said the family was devastated by her son’s death and could not understand why anyone could have done such a thing to him.
“I appeal to anyone who was in the area and may have seen someone on the road or in a vehicle, or may have heard something to call police,” Mrs Ryan said. “Any little piece of information could be the crucial piece to complete the puzzle.”
Mr Ryan’s widow, Helen Ryan, joined her mother-in-law’s heart-felt plea.
“Our family has been rocked by Jeffrey’s death; my daughter has lost her father,” she said.
The couple’s 13-year-old daughter, who has her birthday next week, is reported to be struggling with the loss.
Detective Sergeant John Sommers from Oxley Local Area Command wants to speak to anyone who has heard anything about Mr Ryan’s death.
“Mr Ryan was seen by his wife at the property during the early evening on Friday and we are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen any activity between Friday night and midday Saturday to call police immediately,” he said.
“We’re also looking for anyone, members of the public, friends of Jeff or the family, neighbours ... anyone with any information no matter how trivial it might seem. It may link a vital line of inquiry. Police are following a number of lines of inquiry
Mr Ryan’s funeral will be held in Casino next Wednesday.
Anyone with information should call Tamworth detectives on 6768 2857 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
