Injury at hotel"accident': police

POLICE investigating the Byron Bay Beach Hotel incident that put a 25-year-old man in hospital believe it was likely an accident.

The Northern Star understands Joe Cassidy, known as a 'home boy' who spent a lot of time in Byron Bay, was trying to get back into the hotel on Friday night after being asked to leave.

He was climbing over a low wall and was found unconscious just after 11pm.

Police would not confirm the circumstances that let to his injury, but said they were investigating the incident and had CCTV footage.

“There is nothing to support that the incident was anything other than an accident,” Byron Bay Police Inspector Owen King said.

“However, our investigations are continuing and we still have to interview a number of people who were with him that night.”

A spokeswoman for the Gold Coast Hospital, where Mr Cassidy was ultimately taken, said yesterday he remained in a serious condition.
