Police identify man found murdered near Kyogle
Mr Matheson, 30, was last seen at a property in Eviron Road, Condong, on January 15 when multiple gunshots were heard in the area.
The same property was raided by police the following day and more than 1500 cannabis plants were seized, along with $65,000 worth of cannabis leaf.
In a statement released yesterday, police said the Tweed/Byron Local Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad had teamed up to investigate the murder of Mr Matheson.
They are still searching for 52-year-old Barry Grant, who was also last seen on January 15 at the Con- dong property.
“Investigators are still keen to speak with Mr Grant and have concerns about his welfare as he, too, has not been in contact with family and friends, which is considered out of character,” the police statement read.
A neighbour of Mr Grant said he had lived in the Condong area for more than 10 years, but did not want to comment further.
Police are also seeking information about the recent movements of a white 1994 model Toyota Landcruiser with a blue canopy.
Investigators want to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle around Creegans Road, Wadeville, in the Border Ranges National Park, between 6pm and 10pm on January 15; and on Tumbulgum Road, via Condong, on January 17, between 8pm and 11pm.
The Landcruiser has been seized by police for forensic examination.
Although a post mortem has been carried out on Mr Matheson’s body, the cause of death is yet to be finalised, police said.
Their investigation stretches from Brisbane, through the Gold Coast and the Tweed, to Sydney.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or the men should call Tweed Heads police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
