Police hunt man after woman assaulted at Ocean Shores

POLICE are hunting a man who assaulted and attempted to rob a woman in her car at Ocean Shores on Thursday.

A police media spokesman said a woman was driving her car west along Shara Boulevard about 7:15am when she spotted a man on the side of the road waving her down.

“When she stopped to assist him she put her window down and the man punched her in the face,” the spokesman said.

“The man then reached into the car and tried to grab the woman’s handbag, which was on the front passenger seat.

“The man then assaulted the woman further by pushing her in the chest.”

The spokesman said the woman managed to fight the man off and drive away.

“The woman suffered swelling to her right eye and cheek,” the spokesman said.

Police have taken a statement from the woman and fingerprinted her handbag.

“The man was described as caucasian, in his early 30’s and a bout 175cm tall with a thin build,” the spokesman said.

“He was wearing dark coloured tracksuit pants and a dark coloured hoodie, which was possibly faded.”

Anyone with any information about the man is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
