Police hunt attackers in scuffle

POLICE are seeking the public's assistance to track down a group of youths involved in an altercation in River Street, Ballina, in the early hours of Sunday.

Two other youths were walking along River Street when they were confronted by the group.

According to police, the friendly banter between them quickly turned into a heated confrontation, and the two youths were attacked and suffered minor injuries.

A knife, similar to a Stanley knife, was produced but it is believed no injuries or cuts were inflicted with the knife.

The attackers ran away when they saw police officers approaching them.

Police officers chased the youths on foot and set up a perimeter, but were unable to find them.

Ballina police released a description of two of the attackers yesterday.

The first youth is believed to be 15 or 16 years old, with a dark complexion and short, dark hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt.

The second youth, also believed to be 15-16 years old, is of Caucasian appearance with light brown hair. He was also wearing a white T-shirt.
