Police firearms training facility open

RICHMOND Local Area Command is officially opening its new police firearms training simmunition facility in Lismore on Thursday July 7.

The simmunition facility, based at Southern Cross University’s Lismore campus, will be used to train local police officers in conflict resolution tactics in simulated high-risk scenarios. As part of the official opening, police officers will take part in a short demonstration.

It follows last year’s Critical Incident Emergency Exercise held at the University involving police, paramedics and the State Emergency Service.

“This type of training is critical for police, particularly given our officers are regularly called upon to deal with volatile situations,” said Richmond Commander Superintendent Greg Martin.

“We are extremely grateful to the University for their ongoing support of police training in this region.”
