Police: "Don't porn and drive"

A VICTORIAN driver will have to cough up $1088 in fines after he was caught watching porn on his phone while cruising down a freeway.

The driver, a 50-year-old man from West Gippsland, got caught in the act after an off-duty police officer pulled up next to him on the Monash Freeway about 5.30am on November 23.

Victorian Police said the off-duty officer could see what the driver was watching in the early-morning darkness, and decided to take down the details of the driver.

The driver had mounted his phone on his dashboard to watch the porn.

Victorian Police said when police spoke to the driver on December 17, weeks after the incident, he made 'full admissions'.

Interviewing officer Sergeant James Robbins said in a statement this type of behaviour wasn't acceptable.

"After 17 years in this job I thought I had seen it all," he said.

"We want everyone to be sitting at Christmas lunch this year and silly behaviour like this is all too often means there will be an empty seat and another life lost".

The man was fined $622 for offensive behaviour and $466 for using a mobile phone while driving. He was also handed four demerit points.
