Ryan's wife ordered hit: Police

A MAN and a woman appeared in Maitland Local Court yesterday charged over the murder of former Casino grazier Jeffrey Ryan in October last year.

Detectives from Strike Force Chandler arrested the pair in the Maitland area on Wednesday.

Police will allege they were contracted to kill Mr Ryan by his estranged wife, Helen.

The man was refused bail.

Three people have now been charged over Mr Ryan’s death.

Mrs Ryan was arrested in December last year following an exhaustive investigation involving detectives from the State Crime Command’s homicide squad and Tamworth detectives.

She was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, perverting the course of justice, and concealing a serious crime.

Mrs Ryan was released on bail and allowed to return to her home at the Duri property, near Tamworth, where Mr Ryan’s body was found.

She was ordered to report to Tamworth police daily and not to approach or contact any Crown witnesses or leave the Tamworth area without prior permission of the court.

Mr Ryan’s devastated mother made an impassioned appeal in October for information about the murder.

Mr Ryan was farewelled at a packed funeral service in Casino in November.
