SINGER, songwriter and musician Kayt Wallace is the cornerstone of The Flumes, a band that mixes an eclectic blend of psychedelic folk and soul infused with an electric harp.

The band is keen to show how music, including a harp, can fit in a soul and folk environment.

"We like to explore the possibilities of the harp," Wallace said.

"People come up to us and comment on how our sound is not what they expected it.

"We blow people's preconceptions of the instrument, because you will not get anything like Celtic or angelic sounds with us."

In Lismore, Wallace and base/guitar player Stephan Beattie will be offering the best of their latest album Sweet Sweet Rain.

In Byron Bay, they will be joined by drummer Mitch Francis.

"Base and drums provide a more Jimi Hendrix experience than a Celtic experience in our music," Wallace said.

Based in the Sunshine Coast, Wallace is a self-taught harp player.

Wallace's unique harp was made in Tasmania.

The Flumes will be performing at The Treehouse on Belongil, Byron Bay, on Saturday and The Northey in Lismore on Sunday.
