Plea to governments to save Wardell from highway upgrade

BALLINA Shire council will write to both State and Federal governments urging them not to build the Pacific Highway upgrade through Wardell, or to the east of the village, after a Mayoral Minute was passed, 6/4, at yesterday's ordinary meeting.

Ballina Mayor David Wright said the welfare and safety of the Wardell population was paramount.

The council has already requested the government not consider a proposed route through the Blackwell Range due to its "nationally significant" koala population.
