Plea for witness to fatal crash

POLICE are still looking for eye-witnesses to come forward a week after a fatal car crash on the Bruxner Highway just outside Casino last Tuesday afternoon.

The head-on accident between a black Subaru and a silver XR6 Falcon sedan occurred at about 3pm on the outskirts of Casino.

The Subaru was heading west, according to Detective Senior Constable Phill Priest, who leads the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit.

"The black Subaru was in a line of cars travelling into Casino, so the drivers in the cars behind it would have seen details of the accident. We are asking them to come forward with that information," he said.

There were also vehicles travelling east, occupants of which should be able to help.

Stressing the investigation was still in an early stage, Det Snr Const Priest said it appeared the Subaru had veered out of its lane, but the reasons for this remained unknown.

The driver of the Falcon, Heather Flack, 62 , died at the scene of the accident, but her passenger, a four-year-old boy, was released from hospital with minor injuries.

He is reportedly "coping well". The driver of the Subaru, Lennox Head Chamber of Commerce president and Lennox Head Residents Association vice-president Louise Owen, remains in a satisfactory condition in hospital.

Anyone with information should phone Ballina Crash Investigation Unit on 6681 8618, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
