Playground gets it right
ONLY last week the Richmond River Express Examiner reported on the new playground at Casino West Little Jarjums Preschool, attached to the local primary school.
During that time the school has walked away with the top award for 2014 Kidsafe National Playspace Design Awards in the Education Services category.
"I thought we might get runner-up, so we are ecstatic that we won," Casino West Primary School prinicipal Michael Taylor said. "It took us two and a half years to build and we did it in one hit.
"We started with a tiny playground that was mainly cement."
Taking on the services of James Nash Landscape Architect, Mr Taylor said they played around with designs, incorporating recycled elements.
"It's just the fact that we got it right," he said.
Comments from the judges were encouraging:
"A really engaging playspace that reflects collaboration with the local indigenous community," said one.
"Excellent provision of shade in a hot climate," said another.
Mr Taylor, Julie Ewart and Sharon Schneider went to the awards, which were held in Five Dock in Sydney last week.
