It's still anyone’s series in major League baseball play-off

THE Far North Coast Major League baseball play-offs will start tonight on Baxter Field at Albert Park in Lismore with Workers and Norths clashing in the first game of their best-of-three preliminary final series.

The series winner will meet Brothers in the best-of-three grand final series starting next Friday night.

Neither team tonight stands out as a clear favourite with both capable of putting in strong performances.

Norths are coming off a great win over Workers and have been impressive in recent weeks.

They will start their leading pitcher Jason Britt, who can dominate the opposition when he is on his game.

Defensively Norths are very tight with only a handful of errors in the past couple of months.

The biggest improvement is Norths' batting with all players hitting solidly. Standouts have been Clint McCarthy, James Linger, Daniel Muggleton and Mark Robb.

Workers also have a strong line-up, spearheaded by Mick and Scott McClelland, Dallas Knapp and Aaron Olley. All are capable of hitting long.

Defensively Workers were a bit lacking last Saturday, committing five errors.

They will know they have to keep errors out of their game if they are to hold Norths.

Norths may have a slight edge in a three-game series with the depth of their pitching.

Workers also have experienced pitchers in Troy Pruess, Mick McClelland and Jason Caught who can frustrate the opposition with their mixture of sliders, curve balls and change-ups.

The game starts at 6.30pm, with the second game at 2pm tomorrow.

The deciding third game, if required, will start half an hour after the completion of the second game.

Other grades

IN the preliminary finals in other grades tomorrow, Workers and Norths will battle it out in Division 1.

Workers will clash with Brothers in Division 2 while Easts take on Ballina in Division 3.
