Planning for new arts group underway

MEMBERS of arts and cultural organizations and community groups from around the Northern Rivers are gathered at Oakes Oval's Gordon Pavilion, Oakes Oval, as part of a two-day to forum to work out the direction, goals, and strategies of the newly formed Lismore Peak Arts Group.

The Lismore Peak Arts Group came about after Lismore Art in the Heart Taskforce chair, Ros Derrett, contacted all local arts and cultural organizations in mid 2011 to canvass the establishment of an arts coalition.

The intent was to create a viable 'creative industries' sector spanning the city centre and Lismore region to raise the profile of the arts among the wider community and work towards achieving specific goals.

The Peak Arts Group commissioned national arts consultant, Graeme Gherashe, who has over 30 years of experience in Australia, Asia, UK, Europe and North America, to conduct the two-day workshop in Lismore to help the group plan and strategise for their future.

"The Lismore Peak Arts Group has the potential to assist both the city centre revitalization process and add value to Council's support for cultural activity, whilst raising the profile of the arts sector in the city," Dr Derrett said.
