Five things men and women have in common

MEN are from Mars and Women are from Venus and we can never understand each other, right?

Wrong. Here are five ways men and women are alike:

We both like to be romanced

Here's the scoop: guys like to be romanced too. They'll purr like a kitten with some seductive, loving attention devoted wholly and solely to them. It's a no-brainer that women love romantic gestures and to be lavished with special canoodles and care. But secretly, or not so secretly, guys like it too. Sure, they may not choose a night of romance over watching the footy final, but get them out on an ordinary night for some one on one time, or give them a heartfelt gift, or make their favourite meal in a lovely setting and you'll find there's a mushy heart in there.

We both like to be in a relationship

Men and women live longer, are healthier and more content overall when they are in a relationship. Both men and women benefit psychologically as well as physically. And if you look at dating websites and ask matchmakers, you'll find both men and women are equally eager to find a lifelong love mate. We're human and we want to be connected.

We are both driven by hormones

Hormones drive libido in both men and women. We know hormones affect women, particularly in monthly cycles, but research by Donatella Marazzi, published in New Scientist, found that falling in love affects testosterone levels in men - one of the primary hormones that guide our desire for sex. As men fall in love, their levels drop, but as women fall in love, their levels increase, so that they become a little more like each other.

We both like solo time sometimes, and I'm not talking about time alone to read a good book if you know what I mean.

Single? Yes guys and girls will self-pleasure and self release the tension that naturally builds up when you're unattached and with a healthy libido.

Coupled up? There will still be times when men and women alike will find a moment alone to self pleasure, which for any number of reasons is more satisfying, at that time, than seeking out their partner for sex. And if you're okay with it, guys and gals, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

We are both attracted to red

Eight out of 10 men fantasize about a woman who is dressed in something sexy rather than one who is completely naked. And the number one colour in which men would prefer a woman, according to study after study, to wear is? Red. That doesn't mean women are blind. Someone, somewhere perpetuated the myth that what women want most in a guy is "sense of humour". Think that means she isn't noticing his gorgeous eyes, his sculpted abs, or his long, lean, muscular legs? Think again. In a study where women looked at identical pictures of men dressed in various colours, guess who rated the most attractive? The men in red clothes.
