Plain smokes packaging not a worry

THE head of Wesfarmers - which owns Coles, Kmart and Target - appeared ambivalent about what effect, if any, the plain packaging of cigarettes would have on company income.

In a media teleconference on the heels of the company's full-year results announcement, Wesfarmers boss Richard Goyder was asked if he was concerned company revenue would be hit by tobacco products being plastered in olive-green packets come December.

He said any drop in sales would be "gradual" and he was "not really" worried about claims that black market tobacco could begin dominating the market.
