FAR North Coast pitchers Lachlan Allen and Tailesan O'Mera spearheaded their team to a win first-up at the Queensland state under-18 baseball championships in Lismore yesterday.

FNC beat Brisbane South 14-6 in the opening game of the four-day carnival at Albert Park.

Determined batting by James Clarke backed up the efforts of Allen and O'Mera on the mound.

FNC scored six runs in the first innings to set up the convincing win.

Thirteen teams from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Far North Coast and North Queensland are competing.

The under-16 championships also started yesterday with FNC beaten by a solid Gold Coast outfit 19-1.

Play will continue today with the under-18s taking on Brisbane North at 9am.

They play Brisbane Metro at 2pm then North Queensland tomorrow at 9am.

The under-16s today play Brisbane South at 9am and Brisbane Metro at 2pm.

Tomorrow they have games against Brisbane South at 9am and Brisbane West at 11.30am.
