Pirates of Caribbean 5 could be filmed in Qld

THE fifth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean franchise - which have pulled in $US3.7 billion at the box office - could be filmed on the Gold Coast.

Fairfax reported today that the federal government has finalised a $US20.2 million tax incentive deal with Hollywood's Disney studio to bring the production down under.

The production would be based at the Gold Coast's Village Roadshow Studios, and use filming locations in far north Queensland.

Other locations suggested as possible production bases for the film include Mexico.

The fifth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean is expected to be filmed in 2015 and released in cinemas in 2017.
