Pippa gets married and then cuts her hair. Typical

I SEE Pippa Middleton, the woman whose bottom stopped a nation, is back in the news.

Now for those of you who missed the 2011 Royal Wedding of William and Kate, or as it has become more widely known, "Bottom-Gate", while the eyes of the world, and the cameras, were meant to be on the bride, they were instead firmly trained on her younger sister Pippa's bottom, sashaying down the aisle without a care in the world.

It was mesmerising, like a peach doing a rhumba in ivory silk.

This, I imagine would have made for an interesting post-nuptial conversation between the two sisters…

Kate: "Thanks a lot, Pippa, you just had to steal the spotlight, didn't you?"

Pippa: "I'm so sorry, Kate, I didn't mean to… "

Kate: "It doesn't matter (sniffing)… you've always been jealous of me."

Anyway, thankfully this time it's not Pippa's bottom that's got Britain talking, but her hair.

That's right, because Pippa's cut her hair and got a POB!

Now a POB, as opposed to the LOB, or Long Bob, is also a longish bob, but it's a posh one, ergo, a Posh Bob.

Apparently it's a little shorter and blunter than the LOB, and is generally worn by girls who have very good teeth and like horses.

Now, both the POB and the LOB, I imagine, are opposed to the SLOB, as worn by women who are too tired to care anymore, and just bung their hair back in a ponytail.

But of course, the real story of Pippa's POB popping up at the palace (and try saying that after a pint of Pimm's) is not the cut itself, but the fact that she's had one.

Because Pippa's POB is indicative of a strange phenomenon which occurs all over the world, and across all classes, that of women with long hair getting it cut shortly after they are married.

I did it myself, and while I still have relatively long hair, I too went from a LOB, to a BOB, then a SLOB and am well on my way to becoming a NOB.

I'm going to pause here, and let you all chortle at the fact I've just called myself a NOB, but I am speaking of the hair variety of NOB, not the character.

Now a NOB is no bob at all, no discernible style whatsoever, just sort of bits and pieces of hair tucked behind the ears.

And what I would like to know is why many women cut their hair after they marry, and keep cutting it shorter and shorter as the years go by.

Also, I want to know why Pippa Middleton's haircut is front page news, but that's a question for another day.
