Pies teammates rally around Alex Fasolo

COLLINGWOOD star Taylor Adams says teammate and close friend Alex Fasolo could be back playing as early as next week despite taking time off to deal with depression.

The Magpies and Fasolo announced on Tuesday the forward would not play against Fremantle this week as he steps away from the game to focus on his health.

Adams, who is a member of Collingwood's leadership group, revealed he had seen "changes" in Fasolo recently and was concerned for the goalkicker.

"I'm very close with 'Faz', he's one of my best mates at the footy club," Adams said.

"I've sort of seen changes in him over the last couple of months and I've asked him about those as a friend, just caring about his wellbeing.

"He's been pretty shut off to most people at the footy club, including myself, and that was his decision.

"I'll just be there and let the professionals do their job and just sit there as a friend and help him out.

"I think Faz is at a great place to battle what he's going through ... there's 50 boys who are going to be right by his side."

Fasolo was scheduled to be a panellist on The Footy Show on Thursday night but was replaced by Adams.

He will continue training with Collingwood despite missing the clash against Fremantle in Perth on Sunday but could return to playing as soon as the Queen's Birthday blockbuster against Melbourne.

He is receiving full support from Collingwood and his teammates.

"I actually had dinner with Faz tonight," Adams said.

"I don't know a lot about depression, I haven't really been close to anyone who's suffered depression.

"To me he seems really good and he explains that 99 per cent of the time he's going to be good but there's episodes and times when he feels overwhelmed and they're the really dark times.

"He's going to continue training at the club and could be back playing as early as next week."
