IT TOOK months to organise, but the satisfaction of having 300 happy guests at the Our Kids Winter Ball made it all worthwhile for organiser Rebekka Battista.

The event, now in its ninth year, was held at the Lismore Turf Club on Saturday night.

“It was a spectacular night,” Mrs Battista said.

“It looked amazing – it was a beautiful set up – and we raised $18,000.

“The best moment for me was the Diamond Treasure Chest. We sold 35 safe combinations on the night and only one of them was the one that opened the lock.

“Gradually we got down to three people ... the winner was Peter Butcher and he absolutely brought the house down.

“He has been supporting us for years and he was so excited to win.

“It was also just really lovely the way everyone worked together to make the ball happen.

“The community has really taken ownership of this event.”

So will the event continue?

“Absolutely, definitely. It will be on again next year,” Mrs Battista promised.
