Peta the turtle dies despite day-long operation

THE large hawksbill turtle Peta found at The Spit in Ballina on Friday has died from severe head injuries, despite an all-day operation by Australian Seabird Rescue veterinary surgeon Evan Kosack.

The injuries were not identified at the time of Peta's rescue and it was originally hoped she might be in good health.

Manager Kath Southwell said the team was devastated by the loss.
