People are Rocky's Own's most important asset

NINE years ago, Mathew Wright started working at Rocky's Own Transport Company as a labourer at their Rockhampton Depot.

After gaining experience and spending time upskilling, he's now a professional truck driver with a multi-combination licence and is able to perform a variety of roles for the business.

Human resources manager Trish Crawford said their people are the face of the business and a major contributor in business success and achieving the highest of possible safety standards.

"Our people are our most valuable asset," said Trish.

"You can have the highest quality safety systems and procedures in the world, but without the commitment from your people, you have nothing."

The company, which started 35 years ago, strives to be different, combining a team of highly skilled individuals with the very latest technology, to deliver a superior standard of safety and logistics services to its customers.

ROTC is a truly national company with a huge depth of resources to cater for even the most complex and challenging logistics projects. Services include general, refrigerated, bulk, project work, heavy haulage and cargo sensitive freight.

The business aims to exceed customer expectations and to constantly improve in all aspects of their business.

They have committed to significant ongoing investment in technology and training to maintain the very highest standards of safety and security within the transport sector.

"We provide on the job training and our in-house driver trainer/assessors are able to provide guidance and tuition so our staff can become professional safety conscious drivers. This enables the business to engage with employees at different skill levels dependant on business requirements and to train people from the ground up," Trish said.

The business has in place a profit-share and bonus system that has contributed to producing a sense of ownership amongst staff.

They also have a Company Private Health Care Scheme whereby employees, after a qualifying period, are eligible for 100 per cent subsidy for top level private health insurance for themselves and their families.

"These initiatives have played a significant part in producing a team of people that have a high level of commitment to our business and who provide our customers with the highest standards of service and safety," Trish said.
