Police search for driver after hit and run at Murwillumbah

UPDATE 3.06pm: POLICE are attempting to identify the driver of a vehicle that did not stop after a pedestrian was hit and seriously injured at Murwillumbah this morning.

Police said between 4.30and 5am today a 21-year-old man was walking on Cane Road at Murwillumbah when he was hit by a vehicle that did not stop.

Investigators believe the man was walking towards Condong at the time of the crash.

The man sustained serious leg and internal injuries.

He is undergoing emergency surgery at The Tweed Hospital.

Crash investigators from Ballina are continuing their inquiries into the events leading up to the man being injured.

INITIAL REPORT 9.22am: A PEDESTRIAN has been taken to hospital suffering from serious injuries after being hit by a car at Murwillumbah this morning.

Inspector Greg Jago said the incident occurred at around 5am this morning and that the pedestrian was taken to Tweed Hospital.

Crash investigators from Ballina are now investigating the incident, Inspector Jago said.
