Protestor prepared to go to jail over Talisman Sabre demo

"PEACE Pilgrim" James Dowling is prepared to go to jail for leading an anti-war demonstration at Shoalwater Bay military base in July.

Mr Dowling appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday charged with trespassing on Commonwealth property but of 15 activists charged, Dowling is the only defendant who has not pleaded guilty.

Outside court yesterday, Dowling said he didn't intend to.

"In July, 15 people calling themselves Peace Pilgrims went on the base at Shoalwater Bay to disrupt the war games that were taking place to support Australia's role in war fighting in the Middle East," Dowling said.

"I refuse to plead guilty.

"I'm here today to continue the struggle in courts against war making.

"I don't recognise the right to try me, I believe the courts are defending war making."

Dowling's trial was set down for November 25.
