Party time in the Hamilton household
IAN and Irene Hamilton met at the Casino tennis club sixty-odd years ago.
Tomorrow they celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Apparently it was Ian's green Holden ute that caught the eye of the young Irene.
"That played a big part in it," daughter Wendy Loadsman said.
The Hamiltons were proprietors of Nances Shoe Store in Casino as well as being graziers.
The Hamilton's have three daughters, living near Casino, Evans Head and China.
The three sisters joined the three-in-one celebration for the Hamiltons at the Evans Head Bowling Club.
The party was not just for the auspicious anniversary but also for Ian and Irene's 80th birthdays, last October for Ian and in February for Irene..
Eighty guests celebrated with the Hamiltons with family and friends travelling from as far as China, New Zealand, Sydney, Dubbo, Port Macquarie, Moranbah, Gympie, Brisbane, Legume and the Gold Coast as well as locals.
Two of the original wedding party were also present at the gathering.
The couple received congratulatory certificates from the mayor, the Governor General, Premier and the Prime Minister in recognition of the milestone of 60 years marriage.
Their anniversary cake was topped with decorations of white doves and flowers from the original wedding cake.
The colour theme for the celebration was blue and white, in recognition of the Evans Head Casino Surf Life Saving Club, which has played a major role in the Hamiltons' lives.
And what is the couple's secret to marriage? The Express is unable to ask them as this article is a surprise to Ian and Irene.
Happy anniversary Ian and Irene from everyone at the Express.
