Park assault puts man in hospital

A MAN is in a serious condition in Royal Brisbane Hospital after being assaulted in Knox Park, Murwillumbah yesterday afternoon.

Initial investigations suggest the man was punched in the face by another person near a bus shelter in the park around 2.10pm.

Tweed police Inspector Gary Cowan said officers were taking witness statements in Murwillumbah this morning.

"There were three people in the park, one person was assaulted by another punching him to the face, we'll have more information this afternoon," Insp Cowan said.

Insp Cowan said the man was initially taken to Tweed Hospital before being transported to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious condition.
