Parish is blossoming

FLORAL displays inspired by hymns will be on show at St Bartholomew’s Anglican Church at Alstonville this weekend to celebrate 100 years of the parish.

Celebrations started yesterday and will finish tomorrow with a special thanksgiving service at 6.30pm. There will also be a country music afternoon at the Tregeagle Community Hall from 1pm tomorrow.

The 12 floral displays have been set up by the church’s floral group and will be on display between 9am and 1pm today and all day tomorrow.

“They do beautiful displays for weddings and our worship sessions, and they’re a very professional group,” the parish’s Reverend Lee Shirvill said.

“This weekend is a great opportunity for us to recognise that a rich heritage of Christian community has been developed over 100 years in this place.”

Rev Shirvill said Anglican services were recorded on the plateau as early as 1895.
